In the municipality of Òdena, at the foot of the Puig d'Aguilera mountain, is Can Jorba de les Plaines, a 17th century farmhouse.
Since 1688, generation after generation we have cultivated our lands dedicated to agricultural, livestock and forestry production. Throughout all these years, the different crops have been changing. In the past, we devoted ourselves more to the cultivation of vines and cereals. Currently, parts of these crops have been replaced by olive and almond trees.
As for livestock, we practice animal husbandry with sheep. All our production is organic. So, we are a family that follows in the footsteps of the different generations, maintaining our hereditary and traditional values, but also adapting to the present in order to be more competitive. In this way, we offer the product to the end customer with direct and personalized treatment. In addition, we have been an organic farm since 2010 and since 2013 we have had our products certified by the Catalan Council for Ecological Agricultural Production (CCPAE).
In order to diversify our activity, we also offer tours arranged by see our farm, as well as the agricultural museum of old tools.
People are received and given a brief description of the agricultural and livestock operation. You visit the facilities: you see the cattle, you interact with them, you see the food that is given to them (organic food, grown there). The machinery for harvesting, the workshop is visited.
The lambs that are born there are fattened and when they grow up, they are used for meat production. They are setting up a low-capacity slaughterhouse. Distribution of lamb in short circuit or direct sale.
To complete the tour, visit the museum, where you can see old tools, so you get an idea of what agricultural and pastoral work was like in the past. When leaving the museum, they play a video where it is explained that it is a livestock operation, which animal
is there, how is it, etc.
In conjunction with the quiet guided tour of the Can Jorba de los Planes farmhouse, it invites us to learn about their concern for the environment, as well as to promote the use of local products from the Anoia region. For example, to take care of their animals in a totally natural way, they are fed with products produced on the farm itself.
